Message from the National Convention Chairman Greetings Fraters, Sorors, and Friends in Greekdom! It is indeed my pleasure to invite you to the 64th National Convention of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc.! As your National Convention Chairman, I am happy to report that the National Convention Committee, NPHC Executive Board of Directors, Headquarters staff, and NPHC-Detroit Convention Committee have set a course toward changing the paradigm in convention planning and execution. It has been our goal and effort to learn from the past in constructing our programming for the future, making it relevant to the mission of NPHC, Inc. and member organizations and addressing the digital divide. The world in which we live today has progressively evolved, as has the National Pan-Hellenic Council over the past several years, and so must all its facets. At the 64th National Convention, we will be focusing our attention on our national biennial theme, Working Together to Achieve Educational, Social, Economic, and Political Empowerment. We address modern-day challenges and issues through various methods and mediums, challenges which include inequities in the public education system, the digital divide, access to healthcare, staggering unemployment, homelessness, voter apathy, and countless other issues prevalent in vast segments of underrepresented communities. Thank each of you for your continued service and volunteer time rendered to help the National Pan-Hellenic Council reach new heights. Your presence and participation is needed, once again, to make a difference! Join us for yet another historic National Convention, a convention all about empowerment, as we set out to embrace, honor, and renew our commitment to positive change within our communities. See you in the great city of Detroit! In the Spirit and Bond of Greekdom, Kenneth Lee Harris National Convention Chairman conventionmgr@nphchq.org

National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated

The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated (NPHC) is currently composed of nine (9) International Greek letter Sororities and Fraternities: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and Omega Phi Psi Fraternity, Inc. NPHC promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions.

On May 10, 1930, on the campus of Howard University, in Washington DC, the National Pan-Hellenic Council was formed as a permanent organization with the following charter members: Omega Psi Phi and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternities, and Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Zeta Phi Beta Sororities. In 1931, Alpha Phi Alpha and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternities joined the Council. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority joined in 1937 and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity completed the list of member organizations in 1996. The stated purpose and mission of the organization in 1930 was “Unanimity of thought and action as far as possible in the conduct of Greek letter collegiate fraternities and sororities, and to consider problems of mutual interest to its member organizations.” Early in 1937, the organization was incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois and became known as the “National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated.”
